What is a well?

In their most basic form, wells are holes drilled into the ground that access underground water contained in an aquifer. Pumps and pipes are used to pull water from the ground, from an aquifer. Before use in the home, a screen filters out particles that aren’t needed and that can end up causing clogs in the pipe that require professional care.

In any case, the wells we use in our modern age are a major improvement to the pulley and hand-pumped wells of previous generations. Although wells are significantly more convenient today, they are also much more complex in their design and setup, function, look and design. Wells have access to subterranean stores of groundwater in the aquifer. The well draws water out of the ground and takes it inside into the home or structure. Once the water is inside the home, it runs through a water line and into your plumbing system for use indoors through the faucets and spigots.

What is the difference between a standard system and a constant pressure system?

If you have a large family or use a lot of water, constant pressure systems are nice to have. They are more energy efficient and you won’t experience a drop in your water pressure when using multiple sources of water at one time like you would with a standard system. Additionally, smaller and lighter tanks can be used which can help to save space.

What Is a Well Pump?

In urban and suburban areas, most homes have access to clean water through pipes that are connected to city water mains. However, in rural areas, millions of homes rely on wells for their water supply. A well pump is an electromechanical piece of equipment installed after drilling or digging a well. Its purpose is to pump the water from your well into your house. An electric motor drives an impeller or centrifugal pump, which pushes water from your well through a pipe or jet.

How Does a Well Pump Work?

Your well pump pushes water from your well into a storage tank. The motor is in operation, causing the pump to draw water and push it to the surface into a pressure tank. When you open a faucet in your house, lessening air pressure in the tank will push water out through your plumbing. Once the air pressure drops down to around 40 psi, this will turn the pump back on again, and the pump will immediately start to drive more water into the storage tank.
